How many hairs do we lose per day?

While the average head of hair has between 100,000 and 150,000 hairs, not all heads are on the same level. Many criteria influence the number of hairs: gender, ethnic origin, age, and even physical condition.

The number of hairs depends on its color!

Many criteria influence the number of hairs, but their number depends primarily on the color of the hair. In fact, the number of hairs implanted on the scalp is about 250 per square centimeter. Light-colored hair is generally thin and therefore tends to be numerous: between 140,000 and 150,000 hairs per head. On the other hand, because it is thicker, dark hair is found in smaller numbers. For brown hair, the average is around 100,000 hairs, and for red hair, it varies between 75,000 and 90,000.

A lifetime of hair and hair lost per day

The average life span of hair is about three years for men and between 4 and 7 years for women. When a hair dies, new hair replaces it, causing the first one to fall out.

The human head loses between 45 and 60 hairs per day. A little more in autumn, a little less in spring and summer. However, at the same time, it is estimated that the average European man produces 70 grams of hair per year.

Stopping hair loss?

Certain factors such as stress, an accident, pregnancy, or an illness (scalp or other) can cause hair loss. Once the underlying cause is treated, the hair starts to grow back. However, regrowth will not occur naturally in the case of real baldness. Researchers may have found a way to do this by administering anti-inflammatory drugs (they have found that the fur of rodents thickens almost visibly on this diet).

Unfortunatelly, while the underlying cause of hair loss may be treatable, not all forms of hair loss can be reversed. In cases of genetic or pattern baldness, hair loss is permanent and cannot be reversed through natural means. In these cases, treatments such as hair transplant surgery may be necessary to restore hair growth.
